Breeding technology

Why just ostrich?

One of the main arguments in favour of dealing with ostrich as livestock is nature-friendly farming technology that can be easily implemented. For breeding birds, we use about 60% alfalfa and 40% conventional feeds such as oats, barley, peas or maize.

At the beginning we have also worked with ready fodder, but it is also GMO free and we constantly avoid use of antibiotics and veterinary medicine preparations.

We believe in nature’s pharmacy, so if necessary, first we use options such as nettle, lemongrass or horse chestnut powder. We are committed to our profession, our animals and our common future.

Hatching

At AgRatite,  we believe that professional work starts at the very basics, which is why we take great care with our eggs, the most important building blocks of our farm.

Our main aim is to operate our hatchery at maximum efficiency, so we treat the eggs with the utmost care and attention.

We can hatch up to 1000 eggs at a time, so we can raise thousands of birds in a year.

Rearing

In the first 3-4 weeks of their lives, in addition to keeping the hygienic principles we also take great care to ensure that they are in the right conditions. It is mostly during this period that we can raise strong and healthy birds, and this naturally affects later meat quality or productivity in the case of future breeding birds.

At 12 weeks of age, they are moved to the outer pen, where they can share a larger living space in smaller number, in freer conditions.
